About the Coalition
Background and Context

As part of the Oregon Cultural Trust's founding legislation, each Oregon county and federally recognized Tribe were asked to establish a Cultural Coalition and to create a plan for local distribution of Cultural Trust dollars. The first Clatsop County Plan for Arts, Heritage and Humanities was the result of a year and a half investigative process engaging two hundred citizens and fifty organizations and utilized a survey, forums and focus groups. From that process priorities were developed to help support groups and individuals working and participating in the areas of arts, heritage and humanities.

Who We Are and What We Do

Allocating  Cultural  Trust  funds  in  the  form  of  grants  is  the  Coalition’s  primary  function,  however,  the   Coalition strives to nurture culture in Clatsop County and promote the Oregon Cultural Trust. Members represent diverse geographic locations and participate in the full range of local arts, heritage, and humanities. Members can also be selected at large. The Coalition endeavors to encourage support and participation in our culture in any way our combined resources can provide.

Vision

“Clatsop County residents recognize and understand the value of heritage, the humanities, culture and the arts to our quality of life. To that end, the Clatsop County Cultural Coalition will support, promote, preserve and protect diverse cultural programs that define who we are as a community, support our connectedness  to  others,  and  strengthen  our  sense  of  place  in  the  world  around  us.”
